PUTU. One of Best Traditional Dessert to Eat on Rainy Season

Rainy season has come. We can't do much activities outside. But, there are still something we can do inside our house. Eating. Yap, eat.

WHAT IS PUTU ?

In Indonesia, there is a traditional dessert called Putu which taken from Javanese Language "Puthu". Putu made from rice flour filled with brown sugar inside and grated coconut as it's topping.
I don't know why it's always easier to find a Putu Seller on rainy season. When the rain just stop and you hear a sounds like a whistle, so there is a Putu Seller around.

THE INGREDIENTS

Usually, there are 3 colors of Putu. Pink, Green and White. Since the original color of rice flour is white, so they put food coloring powder to get the other colors. Oh, the brown one in the picture is brown sugar which uses for the filling.

The rice flour and brown sugar will be put in the emmm something like a tube made of a bamboo, and it's ready to be steamed. And the whistle sound that you hear is come form this process. As you can see on the picture, the stainless tube as the smokestack.

THE PRICE

In my hometown, you can get 10 pieces of Putu for just IDR 5k. Former price was cheaper but it's still cheap even now. The packaging of this Traditional Dessert is super simple. Just a wax paper wrapped with another paper. If a 5 stars hotel sell this on their menu with an expensive price as what always happen to another traditional food, bro- just run to any random place or just call me and i'll take you to the night market which sell Putu.

THE TASTE

I eat this since i was kid and for me, the taste is amazing. The texture is soft and then the brown sugar will melt as you bite this dessert.

So, wanna go culinary with me?
